Story Summary :

Nicolai is a man who believes abundance is proof of importance, and he has a jawline sharper than most of his thoughts. When he attempts to win the heart of a circus princess using a shortcut from a fortune-teller, the spell backfires, forcing him to see the world from a very different perspective—and with four hooves. Amid the sawdust and the singing robins of Bordeaux, Nicolai must learn to earn his place in a world that doesn’t care about his riches. It is a story of vanity being chipped away until only the “bearable” truth remains.

What This Story Means To Me:

The concept came from the realization of how we lie to ourselves. For example. I think of myself as someone who is fairly aware of my own strengths and weaknesses, in most aspects of my character. Yet I do sometimes catch myself in a lie. About myself. As if some other version of me is trying to deceive me, so I won’t see the truth.

It can be small things. It can be big things. “I speak my mind even when it’s hard” could be one. But I’ve realized that this is often a truth with modifications, or conditions attached to it. Anyway, that’s an entirely different story. But I think most people have experienced some version of this. Do I love this person? I love this person. I don’t love this person.

And finally, I really wanted to write a lighter story. So I tried adding more humor to this one. Not to write a comedy. Just to give it a lighter feel than my usual, slightly darker way of writing. So if you ever read it, I hope it made you laugh once or twice.
